Renan received his PhD in electrical engineering from UCSB in 2015, his M.S. from UCSB in 2011, and B.S. in electrical engineering from University of Texas at San Antonio in 2008. Renan completed his PhD under the supervision of Professor Daniel Blumenthal where he worked on integrated optical delay line circuits utilizing the world-record ultra-low loss (ULL) waveguide platform. Following graduation, Renan worked at Freedom Photonics as a senior design scientist where he led and managed projects on photonic integrated circuits (PICs) on a variety of integration platforms, including InP, Si, and polymer waveguides. He was a senior scientist at OCPI where he is looking for novel applications for the ultra-low loss waveguide platform and leads the group’s effort on InP based PICs.
