Si₃N₄ External Cavity Lasers

Widely-tunable narrow linewidth lasers are of great interest in data communications and atomic physics, and our external cavity lasers which consist of hybrid integrated ultra-low loss waveguides and a semiconductor gain section provide a solution to the same. The Si₃N₄ external cavity provides frequency selective and tunable feedback to the semiconductor gain section. Since the external cavity comprises of a single chip, mechanical stability is significantly increased compared to free-space external cavities. Current work comprises lasers at both near-infrared(1550nm) and visible wavelengths.
